PreK and Early Language Development Research
Two recent research studies, "Early Language Development: Needs, provision, and intervention for preschool children from socio-economically disadvantaged" (Public Health England) and "Education inequalities at the school starting gate" (Public Policy Institute) delve into the crucial role of early education.
The takeaway from the "Early Language Development . . . " is ". . . there is evidence that the rate at which children develop language is sensitive to the amount of input they receive from the adults around them. The quality of input that children receive is likely to be more important than the quantity."
The takeaway from "Education inequalities . . ." is that while income disparities continue to increase, the literacy gap is consistent but with no narrowing of the gap.
