Parents, kids need you to engage, encourage and set expectations

This is a commentary from an educator who is about "to switch positions and become a public school parent."

Comment:  The author explains the essence of parent engagement. It is a belief and practices that take time but not necessarily more resources. It is about overarching tenets to guide the parent. It's important to remember, while preparing workshops with more and more information to share with parents and promoting leadership and advocacy, that we remember, the parent's engagement, encouragement, and setting expectations for their child are the most essential practices to foster and promote.
